K series joists are secondary structural
members with an open web system and are used to support floor
and roof systems. They are uniformly loaded and are designed as a simple span member.
They are commonly referred to as shortspan joists.
A way of communicating the safe uniformly distributed load-carrying
capacities for a K series joist is 30K350/95 where the first number (30) is the nominal joist
depth (in inches) at mid span , the 350 represents the total gravity load (dl+ll) PLF and the /95
represents the uplift load (dl-wl) caused by wind.
